Red Canoe Foundation

Red Canoe Foundation is dedicated to providing youth access to transformative wilderness experiences

“Without the generous help of the Red Canoe Foundation this opportunity would not have been possible for our family. Words cannot express the depth of my gratitude to the Foundation and the people who donate.” – parent of Red Canoe Foundation scholarship recipients in 2022Your gifts help Red Canoe Foundation support Wabun campers who could not otherwise afford the tuition. Please consider donating as we work toward our ambitious $130,000 fundraising goal to help fund campers for the 2023 summer season. Please continue reading the full story of how a summer at Wabun, made possible by supporters like you, changed the lives of two young campers. My children returned from Camp Wabun’s 2022 season with all the changes one would expect after six weeks in the wilderness. Improved confidence, a positive attitude towards hardship and challenge, social skills, new friendships, and leadership skills.Their smiles, laughter, and confidence filled me with joy… They embodied a sense of freedom, pride and poise. Camp helped them work through some social anxiety that had increased during the pandemic shut down years. I’ve also noticed a desire in my children to stay motivated and busy; to make the most of their day. On our very first evening home they were looking for things to help with around the house. They had become used to rising early and getting the day started immediately doing the work that needed to be done to keep the group moving forward. They wanted to keep that momentum going at home.Wabun provided my introverted children with an opportunity for quiet leadership. Introverts are often overlooked in our fast paced culture and the slow pace of camp provided them the opportunity to share their listening and wilderness skills, giving them the opportunity to lead by example.Thank you for your continued and generous support of our mission. Together, we are building these qualities of “freedom, pride, poise, motivation and leadership” in youth across the country. Every gift helps! Most sincerely and respectfully,Kathryn E. #PlantAFlowerDay was March 12th. As we in New England wait for the “big storm” it might be a good time to get some seedlings going. These bulbs are showing their determination and resilience, despite the snow still on the ground, to push forward and eventually bloom having been nurtured by the sun, the rain and the earth. Our campers learn these skills at Wabun when out on trip and we see that they have bloomed when they return at Paddle In. #wabun2023 See MoreSee Less
